# Percentages Quiz Set 003

### Question 1

A bag contains 280 red, 380 green and 1340 blue marbles. What percentage of the total is the most visible color in the bag?

A

67 %.

B

77 %.

C

57 %.

D

87 %.

Soln.
Ans: a

By inspection, blue is the most visible color. The percentage of blue is \$1340/{280 + 380 + 1340}\$ × 100 = 67%.

### Question 2

Price of sugar is increased by 80%. By what percentage should consumption be reduced so that the expenditure remains same?

A

\$44{4/9}\$ %.

B

\$51{1/8}\$ %.

C

\$35{6/11}\$ %.

D

\$38{9/11}\$ %.

Soln.
Ans: a

Let price be Rs. 100/kg and the consumption be 1 kg. The current expenditure is 100 × 1 = Rs. 100. The new price of sugar is 100 + 80 = Rs. 180/kg. Let the new consumption be c kg. Now, if expenditure is to be same we should have 100 = 180 × c, which gives c = 100/180, so the decrease is 1 - \$100/180\$ = \${180 - 100}/180\$ × 100% = \${400/9}\$, which is same as: \$44{4/9}\$%.

### Question 3

The number of online customers increased from 1075 to 2575. What is the percentage increase?

A

\$139{23/43}\$ %.

B

\$143{37/42}\$ %.

C

\$132{17/45}\$ %.

D

\$136{1/5}\$ %.

Soln.
Ans: a

The increase is 2575 - 1075 = 1500. The percentage increase is \$1500/1075\$ × 100 = \${6000/43}\$, which is same as: \$139{23/43}\$.

### Question 4

The service tax is 5%. A person receives a telephone bill amounting to Rs. 525. How much was the bill excluding tax?

A

Rs. 500.

B

Rs. 510.

C

Rs. 490.

D

Rs. 520.

Soln.
Ans: a

Let the calls be for Rs. x. The total bill is x + 5% of x = \${21x}/20 = 525\$, which gives x = Rs. 500.

### Question 5

If 80% of X is Y, then Y% of 80 is?

A

64 % of X.

B

74 % of X.

C

54 % of X.

D

84 % of X.

Soln.
Ans: a

We have Y = \$(80 × X)/100\$, so Y% of 80 is same as \$(80 × X)/100\$% × 80, which can be rearranged to \$(80 × 80)/100\$% × X = 64% of X.
