Question 1.2
NCERT Class XI Chemistry

Calculate the mass per cent of different elements present in sodium sulphate (Na2SO4).

Solution

Atomic mass of Na = 22.99u, S = 32.06u, O = 16.00u

Molecular mass of Na2SO4 = (22.99 x 2) + 32.06 + (16.00 x 4) = 142.04u

% of Na = [(22.99 x 2)/142.04] x 100 = 32.37%

% of S = [(32.06/142.04)] x 100 = 22.57%

% of O = [(16.00 x 4)/142.04]x 100 = 45.06%
