Question 2.25
NCERT Class XI Chemistry
An electron is in one of the 3d orbitals. Give the possible values of n, l and ml for this electron.
Solution in Detail
(video solution below this)
"3" in 3d gives n = 3
for s-orbital l = 0, l = 1 for p and l = 2 for d
hence, "d" in 3d means l = 2
by quantum theory, ml = 0, ±1, ±2 . . . ±l
hence ml = 0, ±1, ±2 (any one)
Ans: n = 3, l = 2, ml = 0, ±1, ±2 (any one)
