Question 5
SSC-CGL 2020 Mar 4 Shift 3

If SP of an article is 80% more than CP and a discount of 10% is given on MP. What is the ratio of CP : MP?

Solution in Brief

Let MP = 100. So after 10% discount SP = 90. Profit of 80% is given, so CP = (100/180) x SP = (100/180) x 90 = 50. The ratio CP/MP = 50/100 = 1 : 2 ans!

Solution in Detail

Let CP = 100

$\displaystyle \therefore SP = 100 + 80\% = 180$

Let MP = $\displaystyle x$

$\displaystyle \therefore $ SP of $\displaystyle 180 = x - 10\% \text{ of x}$

$\displaystyle \therefore 180 = 9x/10$

$\displaystyle \implies x = 200$

Ratio $\displaystyle \frac {CP}{MP} = \frac{100}{200}$

$\displaystyle \therefore 1 : 2 \:\underline{Ans}$
