If 98x238 is divisible by 11, then what is the value of x?
Solution in Brief
Sum of numbers in even places is (9 + x + 3) = (12 + x). Sum of numbers in odd places is (8 + 2 + 8) = 18. The difference is (12 + x) - 18 = x - 6. For divisibility by 11 the difference should be 0, 11, 22 . . . we can therefore see that x = 6 is the answer!
